Feel free to use this provided scale pattern for your own use.

1 Square = 1 Inch

For each diaper, cut 4 diaper pieces & 8 soaker pieces from cotton knit shirts,
A piece of loop-side Aplix for the front,
2 pieces of loop aplix for laundry fold-back tabs,
and 2 pieces of hook-side Aplix.
Round off one end of each hook piece.

For each diaper, cut 4 pieces. You can cut your inner soaker layers from the sides of the shirt.

Cut your Aplix. The hook tabs about 2?. The laundry tabs about 2?. The front strip 4?, 6? or 8?.

Decide which style diaper you want to sew.

Diapers with a sewn-in soaker are wash & go, but take a long time to dry. Any doublers used for custom absorbency must be laid-in and can shift.

Diapers with removable soaker pads must be stuffed before use, and unstuffed for laundering, but make customized absorbency easy. They are quick-drying, and all absorbent layers are contained – no shifting.

Sewn-in Soaker Diapers

First things first:
Sew all 8 soaker layers together to form the inner pad.
Sew your strip of loop Aplix to the front edge of the outer diaper piece.

Pin the soaker pad to one of the diaper pieces - one that isn't as nice. It will be concealed inside the diaper. Sew the soaker pad in place.

Lay out your layers in the following order:
1) Piece with soaker pad, pad facing down.
2) Inner piece, right side up.
3) Outer piece, right side down.
4) Remaining piece.

Pin around the edges, and sew together as in the diagram, adding elastic between the notches marked. Stretch the elastic while you sew.

Turn right side out. Serge across or turn in and stitch closed the front opening.

Topstitch around the diaper, close to the edge.

Position the Aplix tabs and pin. Stitch in place.

Stuffable Style

Preliminaries:Sew 2 inserts (doublers), 4 layers each. Choose an outer diaper piece and an inner diaper piece from your 4 pieces. The other 2 will be "hidden" pieces.

Stack together a hidden layer and the inner layer, both face up. Serge across or hem the front edge. Do the same for the other hidden layer and the outer layer.

Sew the strip of loop-tape in place on the outer pieces.

Lay out your layers in the following order:
1) Inner stack, inner layer facing up.
2) Outer stack, outer layer facing down.

Pin around the edges, and sew together as in the diagram above, adding elastic between the notches marked. Stretch the elastic while you sew.

Turn Right side out. Topstitch around the edges.

Position Aplix tabs and sew in place.

Stuff your inserts into the front opening, smoothing them out inside so they lay flat.
